1835 - 1870 Mantelet Pattern

The mantelet was an outer garment similar to a cape or mantle, but smaller and shorter. It could be highly decorated and worn for evening, be made of sturdy wool with a fur collar for winter, or be made of simple lightweight fabric and used as a windy spring day wrap. Though first worn in the late 1700's, the mantelet was most popular during the late 1830's and 1840's; but it was such a convenient wrap that it still showed up in fashion journals in the late 1860's.

Very simple construction with great results. Add some lace and trim, and your mantelet can be stunning!

This pattern includes 4 pages of instructions with historical tips, and 2 pattern sheets. It is printed on bond paper, and enclosed in a white paper envelope.
